Dear YWCA Friends and Supporters:

The YWCA of Kitsap County would like to share a wonderful and inspiring true story with you……

Betty and her 4 children arrived at the YWCA ALIVE Shelter with very little other than a few bags of clothing. After fleeing an abusive relationship, Betty sought the support of the ALIVE Shelter and other YWCA programs, with the intent of having a safer and better life for herself and children. Betty says the YWCA offered her a “starting point” for making changes. Betty met daily with ALIVE advocates who provided community resource information, legal and housing advocacy, parenting education, made contacts on her behalf, and gave her encouragement while forming a “safety net” as she moved beyond domestic violence. Within a few months, Betty made some major accomplishments, which she didn’t think were possible a year ago. She and the children live in a nice apartment. The older children attend school and are involved in sports. The younger ones are in daycare. Betty has a full time job – and recently was able to purchase a car. They are involved in church and are making new friends. And… she continues to seek support from the YWCA when faced with challenges. She says, “the YWCA is always there for me and my kids”.

The YWCA of Kitsap County takes great pride in providing services that offer hope and “new beginnings” for families affected by domestic violence. In fact, over 6,000 Kitsap community members access YWCA services, annually.

We could not do this without you. Your ongoing support truly “makes a difference” to the YWCA and the Families we serve.

The YWCA of Kitsap County believes that TOGETHER we can strengthen our community. Thank you for believing in us.

Respectfully,

Sharon Fields
YWCA Board President
